Professional Supervision

SUPER VISION IS "SUPER" "VISION" =

  • allowing you to see yourself
  • reflect on how you practice and interact with others
  • solve problems in the workplace

  • Have you recently taken on a position of responsibility or a challenging new role?
  • Do you find it difficult to find time in your busy life to actually think about your work and how you do it?
  • Are some of the people you come in contact with a challenge for you?

Having professional supervision on a regular basis could be helpful for you

What is Professional Supervision?

Professional Supervision is quite different from the supervision provided by a line manager. Your line manager will be able to support and train you in all your technical and organisational functions and any issues that you will face in your role.

How I can support you is by providing a confidential environment in which you can discuss your reactions to situations that may arise; as well as coach you in developing and maintaining a balance in your life - both professionally and personally.

Supervision allows for a "thinking space" being scheduled regularly into your work diary.

This is how some of my clients have defined their experience of professional supervision:

  • " Supervision is for me, a professional support person and mechanism outside the workplace that enables me to take time to reflect upon and talk safely and confidentially about issues that are affecting my work.
It is a facilitated time and place to 'put the burden down', explore and identify issues, strategies to deal with them, and manage timeframes and commitments."
  • "An opportunity to take time out from the madness of the day to reflect on specific problem areas or just the general flow of the work.  A time to have an objective perspective help me work through issues.  A time for affirmation."
  • "Provides an opportunity to talk through issues/problems/situations which require good management decisions, exploring the alternatives, implications and consequences; helps to provide an objective, wider perspective on the impact of the situations and decisions; within a confidential, non-threatening, professional environment."
  • "I have supervision to maintain a healthy balance between my work and private life. At supervision I can say whatever I like, I can be angry, upset, proud etc; it is an opportunity to let my guard down and talk."
  • "The guidance through reflection on and about issues, decision-making processes and an individualized caring is invaluable."
  • "My supervisor is able to challenge/ point out my use of language or way of thinking on occasions. That my professional goals are reviewed at supervision and that sometimes personal stuff overlaps with the professional and that is okay to discuss."
  • " I would say that, for me, supervision is an opportunity to reflect on & explore my work   practice; to work through ethical or safety issues; how I am living my life and relationships both within the workplace and in life in general.  It is an opportunity to explore themes, future direction, repeating patterns, in a place of safety and good listening.    In many ways the words 'super' and 'vision' define it well. Super can meant "great', wonderful, over sight 'Vision" - means seeing
